What many may forget about are the surgeries that use Reconstructive Plastics for the purpose of rebuilding body parts which may have been deformed or destroyed by accident or disease. Here are just a couple of the types of surgeries in which these types of plastics are used.
Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty is a type of surgery better known as a “nose job.” There are various reasons why a person’s nose may need to be reconstructed. These reasons range from physical assault, vehicular accidents, nasal cancer, or even years of drug use. When the procedure is performed, the surgeon will rebuild the nose and surrounding nasal area to more closely match what was there before.
Breast Reconstruction
For patients who have undergone treatment for breast cancer, the mammary gland itself and the underlying tissue may be completely destroyed or even removed. In these instances, the patient may choose to have breast reconstruction surgery performed after they are completed with their cancer treatment. The tissue used in the surgery will generally come from the abdomen of the patient but there are instances of donor tissue being used. Reconstructive Plastics will be used to finalize the reformed breast tissue to being it back to a more “normal” look.
